JONAROBI
Andrew, a young married rich man lives lavishly in Nairobi city where he works. He drinks triple distilled expensive liquor in high end joints, lives in a maisonette in an expensive leafy suburb of the city. But wait till you see the filthy poverty state his mother is living in back in the village. In his once in a blue moon visit to the village, he makes sure he takes the village by a storm. He hires a very expensive fuel guzzler car to pick him from the airport. His myopic father welcomes give him a grand welcome because of the few shopping he brings her that doesn’t last long. All this doesn’t go well with Tom his younger brother living in the village who feels Andrew doesn’t behave as the first born given that he doesn’t even have a house of his own and Tom blames their mother for not telling Andrew the truth. Olebo, the youngest brother transverses the whole village trying to beg for a place where his brother Andrew will sleep but he meets rejection from everyone claiming that his brother Andrew despises everyone in the village as poor and uncivilized. The only person who accepts to accommodate Andrew at a few is Wosi the arrogant ‘changaa’ (illicit brew) vendor. Things get bad when Andrew disagrees with Wosi and he chases him out of his compound at night, Andrew is left with no option than to seek refuge at a ‘disco matanga’ (funeral disco) to pass the night. The ordeal forces him to cut short his visit in the village but again he realizes he misused money in the bar and has to borrow Tom money to fuel his car back to Nairobi. Are the challenges and embarrassments lessons enough to Andrew on the importance of developing your village home?
